Blink-182 and Selling Out
OThere is a prominent feeling that when a band decides to grow up and write more about real life, adult situations they have become a better band. A good case of this can be seen in the popular pop band blink-182. Often known for their childish themes in songs early in their career, this band focused most of their attention on swear words and being naked in various situations. As their CDs grew in number, however, they began to write about suicide and other various harder topics in their music. Many fans of the band felt they sold out at this same time, becoming too main stream and overlooking fans of their previous work. So this article will address whether making meaningful lyrics goes hand in hand with selling out.
The first thing that has to be addressed is that there are some bands which start out playing meaningful lyrics from their very first single. Because it would be incredibly hard to call someone whose never been anything but mainstream as selling out to the mainstream, we will ignore this group for now.
The truth of the matter is that bands cannot make the same songs over and over again. Why would people continuously spend money on buying new audio CDs and going to concerts if all they were going to hear is the same old thing? That may work for diehard fans, but not the casual ones who pack most of the stadiums and concerts. Bands have to change and adjust, like everyone else in life do, to keep their career promising in the future.
It also doesnt make sense when people accuse bands of selling out after they sign with big record companies and play on MTV. The truth is that every band is made to make the big bucks and to be famous. By refusing to go mainstream it would be hard for any band to do this.
That being said, making more sensitive and serious lyrics shouldnt go hand in hand with selling out. While blink-182 may have been happy all the time and felt good enough to not have to write anything but naked humor early, it is likely they witnessed more and more bad events occurring around them as they grew into their later ages. It is hard to keep all your emotions bottled up when you want to express feelings, so it is not a big deal that the band wanted to use harder events in their lyrics. I dont think that makes them sellouts, even though they are much more of a mainstream band than they used to be.
In the end, blink-182 broke apart and no longer play together anymore. Many fans still existed for the band and they are still looking for a reunion. While this may or may not ever happen, one thing is for sure. The blink-182 who used to have nothing to do but run naked down a street while passing hot girls is probably gone forever. But their lyrics will be something that will touch us all forever.

Reading Fiction – Where is Your Favorite Place to Indulge?
Do you have a special place where you like to read? Is it somewhere that feels strange to be empty handed? The ties between what we read and where are sometimes so strong that it is difficult to change. Did you ever try to read say a business book where youd normally sit to read a novel? Did you struggle to get through more than a few pages? Our minds associate certain activities with certain positions and sometimes this can be difficult to break. Instead of trying to fight it, it may be better to find a location to suit the type of reading youd like to do. In this article, Im going to cover a few common venues and recommend reading material to suit.
1.At work. Reading a novel while sitting at my desk in front of my computer feels downright weird to me. To be honest, reading anything other than business material can be difficult. Of course, because of my job as editor of Espresso Fiction Im often reading short stories while sitting at my desk and that feels OK. In fact, when I find a story that I really get into, its a complete break as I have no awareness of other noises or distractions. And when Ive finished I have no sense of time. It usually takes a minute or two and then Im back in the present but for that 15 minutes or so I am somewhere completely different. And thats one of the things I love about fiction; it transports you wherever the author wants to take you.
2.Outside. Lounging by the pool on a sunbed or sitting on the grass is a great spot for reading a gripping novel. That way you can effortlessly block out the surrounding noise. Of course, if you are supposed to be watching children then a novel is not the best choice. You would be wiser to choose something that you can drop in and out of without constantly losing the flow of your reading.
3.Hammock. My husband recently put up ours after I pointedly showed him exactly where it could go and we discussed at length how it could be fixed into place. Boy, did I miss having it. Lying stretched out and staring at the sky and the trees and listening to the birds is a really lovely experience. The only problem with reading in a hammock is staying awake! So choose your material wisely something funny or lively is your best bet if you dont want to drop off to sleep within a few short minutes.
4.In bed. Reading in bed seems to be a very common reading position as its a great way to turn off from the stresses of the day and ease into sleep. Ive found its best not to pick anything too stimulating because my mind starts racing (the very opposite of what I want) or complicated because then I give up without reading more than a page or so (this makes for a very long read and usually ends with me putting the book aside in favor of something else).
5.Sofa. Another great reading venue because your body gets to rest too. This can be a great spot for reading a novel or if time is limited a short story.
6.Coffee Shop. This is the perfect place to read your favorite magazine or short story, something that holds your attention but can tolerate the inevitable interruptions. Both are something you can sink into and pop out of at the other end feeling refreshed.
7.Aeroplane. A long novel that grabs you from the very beginning and doesnt let you go makes time go really fast. If youve ever been on a long flight with a great book and not wanted the flight to end until you finish the book then you will know what I mean.
8.Public transport. Again you need to choose your reading material carefully. A novel which is too engaging may have you missing your stop and hankering to get back to your book as soon as possible. It is better to find material that suits the length of your journey articles or short stories for short trips and magazines and more complex or thought provoking novels for longer journeys. Public transport is a perfect place to daydream so something which requires reflection and thought can be perfect if time allows.

Immune System Overloaded by Dental Infection, Trauma – Injury

When people suffer a severe auto accident, fall, or suffer some other injury, their immune systems are called upon to work at peak performance in order to achieve a speedy recovery. Those people with root canal fillings are generally found to have a healing rate slower than expected. Quite often, the extra stress an injury places on their defense systems allows the organisms to get out of hand and attack some other organ or tissues.
We all know of individuals who get over one illness only to develop another. This can, of course, happen when no dental infections or root canals are present because of poor nutrition, anxiety, alcohol and drug use, and a whole variety or combination of other stresses with which humans must cope. The more stress involved, the more the immune system is taxed to keep the person alive and functioning.
When the body is continually subjected to irritation in any one or a number of its tissues and parts, these areas often become sick. All during the travel time, he was confined to relatively small areas where exercise was impossible and movement was restricted.
In Cleveland he worked as a night watchman in a manufacturing plans. It was necessary for him to walk several miles each night over acres of cement floors. Because he didn’t wear rubber heels on his shoes, the irritation to his knee joints and ankles was stressful and made him uncomfortable.
After a few weeks he developed acute rheumatism in the joint areas. At that point, an oral examination disclosed some dental infections. The sources of infection wee removed and with the addition of rubber heels to his shoes, his problems were relieved and he was able to continue the same occupation with no further symptoms of rheumatism.
Dr. Price also relates the case of a patient who suffered eye problems and was unable to read for any length of time without periods of rest. This had been a continuing problem for several, and glasses proved to be of no help. After removal of dental infections, this patient was able to discard the glasses he had worn for 15 years, and reading for long periods no longer caused discomfort.
Many other patients who wore glasses reported such improvement of their eyes after the removal of dental infections that their eye glass prescriptions had to be reduced, and others were able to discontinue using glasses altogether.
Understanding the Causes of Gout
There are many factors that contribute to the development of gout. Genetic factors, age, obesity, metabolism, improper diet, smoking and the abuse of alcohol are all considered to be the causes of gout.
Gout is a type of arthritis that occurs due to high levels of uric acid in the bloodstream. In large quantities, uric acid is difficult to eliminate through the process of excretion and tends to accumulate and deposit at different levels of the body. Age is a determinant factor in the development of gout, as people over 50 are more likely to be affected by the disease than young adults or children. An interesting aspect of gout is that it mostly affects men.
Gout is believed to have a pronounced hereditary character, as the disease is known to be transmissible from one generation to another. Statistics indicate that some people who suffer from gout have a family history of the disease.
Due to the fact that there is no specific treatment for gout, it is very important to take steps in preventing the disease from occurring. An appropriate diet, good exercise and a healthy lifestyle play very important roles in the prevention and treatment of gout. Although smoking and the consumption of alcohol arent considered to be causes of gout, they considerably aggravate the symptoms of the disease.
The foods that are believed to cause gout contain high levels of saturated fats or are very rich in purines. When the body synthesizes purine, it releases a lot of uric acid. It is best to reduce the amount of foods that contain purine, such as organ meats or fish. Some vegetables and dairy products also contain a lot of purines.
Foods that are considered to be appropriate for people who suffer from gout are green vegetables, fruits, low-fat milk, cereals, and chicken meat. Drinking right amounts of water is known to help the body in the process of eliminating the excess of uric acid. Therefore, it is advised to drink at least 2 liters of water each day to make sure that the surplus of uric acid is properly excreted from the body.
Curling – An Ice Sport With A Cool Curve
Curling, even though being recognized as an Olympic medal sport, is still unfamiliar to many. Just what is this sport and how is played? Simply put, curling is a sport that is played on ice where players slide granite rocks down the playing field. As the rocks travel, they have will often curve, or curl, during play. This is why the sport is known as Curling.
This unique sport first came into existence on the frozen ponds and lakes of Northern Europe. During a Curling competition, two teams of four players will slide hefty granite rocks across a 130′ x 15′ sheet of ice. The rocks travel down the ice toward the center, which is similar to an archery format. The designated areas are painted just below the surface of the ice at both ends, which allows the rocks to be played back and forth during a series of competitions.
Each Curling game will consist of sixteen rocks being thrown and, following the conclusion, a score is tallied. Each team will score one point for each rock that is determined to be closest to the center. Very similar to the strategy of baseball, only one team can score during any given play. One of the most unique features of curling is the incorporation of sweeping. When a player sweeps the ice, they are essentially brushing it at a rapid pace in order to keep the rock moving. Understanding Flow Control
Flow control is done through a mechanism that will control the amount of flow of data in a network. It is done under defined conditions and is the opposite of congestion control which is used when congestion has happened. There are two types, open loop flow control and closed loop flow control.

When I Googled Panic at the Disico, Google returned 10,300,000 results. On the first page of Googles search results, every listing led me to information about the rock band, Panic At the Disco.
The very first Google listing, for Panic at the Disco, was for the bands video “It’s Better If You Do”.
The second listing for Panic at the Disco was their bands website, panicatthedisco.com.
The third result was Panic At the Disco at purevolume.com.
The fourth result was Panic at the Discos’ myspace page.
Fith was Panic at the Disco lyrics.
Get the picture? The first page in Googles’ search results was all Panic at the Disco. Panic at the Disco is on an Indie Label.
Now let’s briefly look a Algebra, a R&B Group on a Major Label.
I Googled Algebra, and you can guess my results. The term “Algebra” returned 86,000,000 results in Google. Algebra, the R&B Group wasn’t listed anywhere in the first 10 pages of results. Most people doing searches will not dig past page two – in any search engine. The likelihood of the R&B Group Algebra, having any success on the Internet (from a marketing stand-point) is very slim.
So the lesson to be learned here is: choose a crazy or creative keyword and band name. With a crazy keyword people can find you easily on the Internet and that can improve your on-line marketing efforts by over 100%

Reading & Writing English: Words Ending In “D”
The different sounds that the letter”d” takes at the end of a verb in the past tense

The English language indicates that the action of the verb is in the past by having some form of the “d” or “t” sound end the word. We say some kind of “d” or “t” sound although the word is almost always written with a “d”.
Many people who learn English are so confused by the irregular forms of the verbs that they give up and invent their own ways of referring to the past. Some say: “Yesterday I walk to work” or other ways to avoid using the past tense that they have never learned.
Sure, there are irregular words in English. The past of teach is taught; the past of buy is bought; the past of think is thought. But even these irregular words end in some kind of a “t” sound to indicate that the verb refers to the past. Luckily, there aren’t too many of these irregular verbs. You just have to learn them. The good thing is that they behave more or less the same way.
But let’s look at the regular verbs. Most English verbs are regular. To indicate the past, they put some kind of a sound made with the tongue touching the back of the upper teeth. Almost always it is the sound of a “d” or of a “t”.
The ending of the verb love in the past: I loved the movie is very different from the ending of the verb walk: “I walked to work. When it sounds like the letter d, it is a voiced sound, that is the vocal cords vibrate. When it sounds like a t, it is a voiceless or an unvoiced sound.
But how do you know when it should end with a voiced “d” sound and when with a voiceless “t” sound? Although you may not believe it, there is a “rule” that will help you to form the past of most English verbs. You may still make some mistakes but little by little you will feel the mistakes and will correct them. The structure of your mouth will force you to make the right sound.
The “rule” for the formation of the past is similar to the “rule” for the “s” at the end of plural nouns and verbs in the third person singlular of the present tense.
The rule of the “d” in three parts:
There is a one simple “rule” that covers the pronunciation of the “d” and “t” sounds.
The sound that indicates the past of the verb is the voiceless “t” sound when the verb ends in a voiceless consonant. On the other hand, the indication of the past is the voiced “d” sound when the verb ends in a voiced consonant.
The three parts of the rule are:
1. the voiceless “t” sound,
2. the voiced “d” sound,
3. the added syllable.
1. The voiceless (unvoiced) “t”:
The “rule” tells us when the last sound of a verb is is like that of the words talk, cap, mess, etc (that is, a voiceless sound), the past of the verb ends with a voiceless (or unvoiced) sound like that of the word walked. The past of these verbs is talked, capped, messed and the “d” is unvoiced.
For example the letter “d” that represents the past in the written word is pronounced like the “t” of Tom (a voiceless sound) when the verb ends in a voiceless sound. So when the verb ends in voiceless sounds such as the letters k in the word looked, p in the word stopped, f in the word cuffed (or gh in the word laughed) the past is indicated by the voiceless “t” sound. This always happens so don’t be fooled by the written letter “d”.
The past tense of the verb is also indicated by a voiceless sound when the verb ends in any “hissing” sound such as the words: face, wash, crunch. All these sounds are voiceless so the verbs that end with them will always have the “d” of their past form sounded voicelessly and therefore become the forms faced, washed, crunched.
It is important to note that although the voiceless “d” is written “ed”, you do NOT add a syllable to the original word.
2. The voiced “d”:
The “d” is voiced in two situations:
a. when the word ends in a vowel sound such as, played, teed, owed, cued.
The “strange” vowels are also followed by a voiced “d” such as in the words: furred, papered, pawed. The past of verbs ending in a diphthong sound also end in a voiced “d” sound, for example in the words: plowed, paid, toyed .
b. when the word ends in a voiced consonant.
Some examples of the second case are: b as in the word robbed, n in the word drowned, l in the word mailed, g in the word logged, v in the word heaved, m n the word farmed, n as in the word panned, thesoundof the letters ng as in the word ring, r as in the word cars, v as in the word stoves, and thin the word bathed.
Remember that that the voiced “d” sound forms the past of verbs that end in a voiced consonant, for example, burned is the past of the verb burn and lovedis the past of love.
It is important to note that although the voiced “d” in these words is written with “ed”, you do NOT add an extra syllable.
3. The added syllable
In both cases, when the verb ends in either the sound of the voiced “d” or the sound of the voiceless “t”, the English language adds a syllable to the verb.
For example, the verbs in the present tense visit, vote, side, need, plant, adopt, add “ed” to make the past tense and become visited, voted, sided, needed, planted, adopted.
The “ed” is pronounced with a special vowel followed by a voiced “d”. The special vowel is the “short i” which has the IPA symbol of the small capital i. We treat this sound in the book in the chapter on the short vowels. Remember a ship is not a sheep. You have to be able to hear the difference to be able to use this vowel in the added syllable.
It is only in this special case that you pronounce the second syllable of the past of a verb. Not all verbs have two syllables in the past. It is important that you realize that most common English verbs have only one syllable. Do not think that you have to pronounce the “ed” of the words such as walked, talked, played, tuned, tooled. Do not read these words as they were written in your language.
Although many verbs have “ed” in their past, it is just a strange note of English spelling. You often only pronounce one syllable with the past indicated by a voiced “d” or an unvoiced “t” according to which sound preceded the ending.
You only pronounce the “ed” when the root form of the verb ends with your tongue touching the back of your teeth, either with a voiced “d” sound or with an unvoiced “t” sound. For example, “Today, I heat the coffee but yesterday I heated it” (2 syllables because the last consonant is a “t”). But, “Today I talk to my friend but yesterday I talked on the phone.” (one syllable because the last consonant is not a “t” or a “d”)
The extra syllable: Listen to this as often as necessary for you to be able to distinguish the unvoiced “t” from the voiced “d”.
