What Is Cholesterol?
Cholesterol in and of itself, is a natural function of the human body. Every living being requires a certain amount of fat to exist. Like everything in nature, it only becomes a problem when there is an imbalance.
The processing of fat begins when it gets absorbed in the intestines. From there it heads to the liver. The fat requires a delivery system to the rest of the body to be used immediately but also to be stored in fat cells for future use.
In order for the fat to enter the delivery system, while it is in the liver it is split into two different types of fat, cholesterol and triglycerides.
Once this transformation takes place, the two types of fat (cholesterol and triglycerides) are packed into vehicles for carrying the fat to the fat cells throughout the body using the bloodstream. These vehicles are called lipoproteins.
There are three types of lipoproteins: Very Low Density Lipoproteins (VLDL), Low Density Lipoproteins (LDL),High Density Lipoproteins (HDL)
Under normal circumstances, the bloodstream does a very efficient job of carrying the LDL and HDL Lipoproteins throughout the body.
Cholesterol is a waxy, fat like substance that presents itself naturally in cell walls and membranes everywhere in your body. Your body uses cholesterol to produce many hormones. It also uses it to produce vitamin D and the bile acids that help to digest fat.
Where problems arise is when there is an over abundance of cholesterol in your bloodstream. The cholesterol deposited by the LDL leads to a narrowing of the blood vessels.
If this occurs, the excess can be deposited in the arteries of the heart which could result in stroke or heart disease. This is called atherosclerosis. This is why LDL is known as bad cholesterol.
HDL usually collects the bad cholesterol and takes it back to the liver. Thats why HDL is known as good cholesterol.
Cholesterol is not the only cause of heart disease, but it is a contributing factor.
Will Technology Advances Limit Entertainment Choices?
Hollywood has recently been telling America about the financial trouble the movie industry is facing. In response, Americans have asked Hollywood to start producing movies that are good enough to watch and worth the ten dollars theaters charge! Over the past four years ticket sales for new movies have steadily decreased. Why is this happening? Are movie theaters going away? Will movie studios go out of business and further limit consumer choice? This article will attempt to answer these questions by examining the challenges and opportunities faced by both the entertainment industry and consumers.
Why are ticket sales declining?
Home theater systems
Besides the limited quality of movies being produced, many Americans have set up home theater systems in their homes. The decrease in prices of big screen TVs and theater quality surround sound systems has produced a generation of movie viewers who have the resources to create a theater environment in their own homes. When you add the convenience of not having to tolerate someone elses crying child and being able to pause the movie when you need to get a snack or drink theres really no question why movie theater attendance is down.
DVD pricing and release windows
For years, the movie business has operated on a series of complex release windows:
First, movies play in theaters, then, six months later, the video window opens, followed by the opening of the pay TV and then free television window. (Slate, Downloading for Dollars)
Since the price point for a DVD is lower than taking a family of four to the theater, many consumers simply wait for the movie to be released on DVD. DVD players have decreased in price so much theyre almost ubiquitous in American households and are a crucial part of any home theater system.
Hollywood is being pressured financially at the theaters by these situations. A good opening weekend is a huge part of the viability of a film. Studios spend an average of $30 million per film promoting the theatrical release. The question many industry analysts are asking is why the studios dont shift the release windows, or eliminate them all together.
Simultaneous Releases?
Some of Hollywoods biggest players are testing this theory right now. sort of. The film Bubble, directed by Steven Soderbergh and backed financially by tech entrepreneur and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is the first of six films planned to test Hollywoods window system. Released January 27th, Bubble could be seen in theaters or pay-per-view on cable and from satellite providers through HDNet television. Four days later, Bubble was released on DVD with additional content available on the DVD version.
Bubble is a tightly controlled experiment. The film itself is short (72 minutes), starred only amateur actors and was mostly panned by critics. Theatrical distribution was limited to Landmark Theaters which Cuban owns and a few independentsother theaters boycotted it. Pay-per-view was also distributed through a Cuban owned venture HDNet which has distribution through many major cable companies and satellite providers DISH Network and DirecTV.
A few days after the films release, Soderbergh and Cuban declared victory in their experiment. While theater earnings were only $70,644 on 32 screens, DVD sales quadrupled expectations. A profit sharing model gave 1% of DVD sales to theaters that showed Bubble. The film itself cost about $1.7 million to make and had profit projections after only a week of release.
Are movie theaters going away?
Why do Hollywood profits matter to American consumers?
If you like economics, the declining movie ticket sales conundrum may be of interest to you. Most Americans however dont really care. Hollywood presents an image of big budgets, expensive cars, mansions and movie star lifestyles while most of America is buried under credit card debt and struggling to put gas in their Hondas or pay their heating bills. But, Hollywood profits should matter, because if a film, TV program, or documentary doesnt have a large audience, it gets cancelled and nobody gets to see it.
In America, we love our entertainment. Despite the quality of a program, television shows that dont have big enough audiences for network TV inevitably get cancelled. In my mind, Arrested Development is one of the funniest programs out there right now. It has had critical success and a core of viewers, but it wont be coming back next season. Fox will burn the remaining episodes in poor and sometimes random time slots. Even long running, successful programs like The West Wing and Star Trek: Enterprise ultimately get the axe. If Hollywood resorted to different distribution and income models, they could still make a profit and American consumers could still get the programming we crave.
Will consumers pay for TV programming?
Hollywood has made an assumption that consumers wont pay for programming and have to rely on advertisers for revenue. But, over 70% of Americans already subscribe to cable or satellite TV to get clear programming. The question isnt whether Americans are willing to pay, it is how much will they pay.
Andy Bowers from Slate offers this theory
The West Wing has about 8 million viewers per week. It costs about $6 million per episode. In other words, if every person who now watches the show paid $1 a week, TWW would more than pay for itself.
Obviously not all 8 million viewers could or would pay for the show. But let’s say a quarter of them would. That’s 2 million people paying $3 per episode (or maybe $4, throwing in a buck for Steve Jobs and the cable companies). The episodes could be viewed on a PPV channel, downloaded to a DVR, or slurped onto video iPods.
Now, imagine if all TV programming could be distributed in this fashion! Programs like Arrested Development wouldnt have to rely on a top 20 ranking to stay on the air. Programming would become a function of consumer demandAmerican TV watchers would actually have more choice!
Will advances in technology decrease consumer choice?
Technology creates choice
Technology is the enabler in this scenario. If there were no device for us to record or playback programs, we would still be at the mercy of TV broadcasters for our entertainment. The Digital TV migration of 2009 will make it possible for every household to enable some sort of pay-per-view option, even if they dont subscribe to cable or satellite TV. Mobile viewing choices will also be increasing with products like Apples video iPod and DISH Networks PocketDISH.
So how do technology advances effect movies?
I was noticing the other day after a Shaggy Dog commercial that most new movies that are advertised heavily are re-makes, sequels or spin-offs of comic books, video games or TV shows. Think about the movies released lately Starsky & Hutch, The Dukes of Hazzard, King Kong and Star Wars: Episode III. I thought it was because Hollywood had finally run out of new ideas, but Edward Jay Epstein explains they do it on purpose!
Simultaneous release on multiple platforms will reduce the $30 million advertising cost studios use to blitz consumers into going out to a new movie on opening weekend. In turn, Hollywood will be able to afford to green light more movies that can still turn a profit even with smaller audiences. If theaters are given a share of DVD sales, the burden of possibly having less movie goers in their seats is alleviated.
Bubble is only the first of six films to be released simultaneously by Soderbergh and Cuban. Soderbergh made a prescient statement in a recent interview, Name any big-title movie that’s come out in the last four years. It has been available in all formats on the day of release. It’s called piracy. Indeed, controlling piracy is a huge motivation behind the industry wide move to digitize TV. Movie piracy can take several forms including filming the movie in the theater with a high quality camcorder, or copying the master disc from a post-production facility.
Conclusions
Bubble was just a test. I think the next few films to be released by Soderbergh and Cuban will feature A-list actors and really send a message to Hollywood they must change their business model, or they could be out of business.
Technology is a great enabler of change and consumer choice. For Hollywood studios it is the ultimate profit maker and vehicle for just in time product delivery. Simultaneous delivery of new movies through various outlets like theaters, DVDs and cable and satellite TV pay-per-view allows more choice for consumers and more choice for Hollywood to produce innovative, high quality films. These advantages will also trickle down to TV programming as well.
Hollywood can lead the way in driving digital video content for TV and movies while remaining in control if they will embrace technological advances instead of fighting them. The music industry has already shown suing 12 year olds for downloading pirated songs is no solution for anybody.

The Power Of Consistent Guitar Practice.
Most of us have heardo? of the power of being consistent in our guitar practice. You know what I mean. Practicing something EVERY day until mastered. But do you do this? I know that in the past, I definitely didn’t…
When I first started playing I was a maniac! I had no real structure to my practice. I just put in the hours and hoped that I got better. And I did! But there was a problem. I practiced something different almost every day. My practice “schedule” changed from one day to the next. This created two major negative side effects…
1. Sore hands. For example, I would often go so berserk on alternate picking exercises that my picking wrist would get incredibly sore. It would be so sore that I couldn’t practice alternate picking the next day. So what did I do? I then went crazy with legato exercises. So much so that I wouldn’t be able to practice legato the next day. So I went back to my trusty alternate picking. Mmmm…there’s a pattern emerging here.
2. Slower Progress. Now, don’t get me wrong. I progressed faster than any of my friends. But I definitely don’t think I progressed at my fastest possible rate. If I had practiced less on an exercise, but did it EVERY day I think my progress would have been much faster.
I guess the moral of the story is to temper your enthusiasm with intelligence. Let’s look at how to start to be more consistent with your practice…
***Step One***
Decide on something that you would like to master. Make it something short like a lick, scale or perhaps a few bars of a song.
***Step Two***
Decide on a speed goal for the thing that you have chosen. This will be your target tempo. Make it challenging. Something that will make you a significantly better player once you have achieved it. Of course, you need to keep in mind your current playing level. If you are a beginner and you set a speed goal of sixteenth notes at 240bpm, you are definitely setting yourself up for a failure!
***Step Three***
Decide on how much time you’ll invest practicing the thing that you have chosen. I would recommend setting a goal of 10-15 minutes a day. A small amount done daily will give you better results than hours done irregularly.
***Step Four***
Make a commitment to practice what you have chosen on a daily basis. The key is to practice it every single day until your speed goal has been reached. No excuses,no crying, no moaning, no exceptions.
***Step Five***
Get to work! This is the step that requires discipline. It could take weeks or months to achieve your speed goal! Just keep in mind that anyone can write down a goal, but unfortunately VERY few people will follow it though to completion. That’s probably why there are so many more guitar OWNERS than guitar PLAYERS
I invite you to try this approach to guitar practice. I’ve found that it really helps me, and I’m sure you’ll benefit from it as well!

Camping – do you have the skills to survive the outdoors?
As our society becomes more and more technological, cold and urban, ever more people are starting to feel the urge to get away from it all, take a break from modern life and go back to the way things were for our ancestors. Perhaps this explains the rising popularity of camping holidays, the ultimate experience of going back to nature and living in the wild, with only a basic structure for shelter and a fire for cooking.
Of course, lots of people dont exactly do it that way. Camper vans are popular, as is car camping, and all sorts of electrical appliances have been adapted for camping there are even camp microwaves. Most people consider at least modern toilets and showers to be a campsite necessity, regardless of whether its really true to the spirit of the activity. Camping doesnt really have to be an outdoors thing if you dont want it to be, as many camper vans arent that much different to houses on wheels, and many families stay in them for a large part of their holiday. Its all about doing what you feel comfortable with.
For hardcore campers, though, the truest form of camping is camping which teaches survival skills, such as eating-wild caught food, finding your way around by the position of the sun and making fire. You would have to be very hungry to eat the animals that can be found in the woods of most countries, however, and for this reason camping with facilities and packed food is far more popular.
Most campsites are in woods or open fields, and are often publically-owned if you want to find one, they should be clearly marked on maps for walkers and on road signs for cars. Its up to you what you take with you, but most people will prefer to have at least a tent, sleeping bags, torches, and either a tool for making firewood or portable oven where campfires arent allowed.
Is Starting A Home Day Care Right For You?
Starting a home daycare business is a good way to make extra money, especially for stay at home moms. The start up costs are low, it’s easy to promote a home daycare, and the money is good. Because of today’s popularity with dual income families, childcare providers are in high demand in many areas.
So what’s the downside? Is there a downside?? Unfortunately the answer is yes, there is a downside to any business venture, be it child care, opening a restaurant or working from home in a makeshift home office. The question that remains to be asked: is starting a home daycare right for me?
In order to succeed at running a home daycare, the child care provider must love children. This may seem like it should go without saying, but unfortunately there are some people out there who do it more for the money than for the children. Success does not follow those who do not work with what they love. The provider must also be very patient with children. Even if you have your own children, somebody else’s child may have habits, manners, and tantrums that can be extremely hard to handle if you’re not prepared for it.
Taking care of many children at a time also ties you down to your own home. Ideally, the day care provider will have the means to take all of the children out on a little field trip occasionally, but this is not always possible especially if you are the sole provider of childcare for your home. It’s not always the provider that’s affected by this. The spouse of the provider must also understand that after being tied down to the home for hours and days on end, the occasional break away from the home can be re-energizing.
The daycare provider must be able to provide a loving, stimulating environment for the children to flourish in. You must provide a way for the children to have fun, learn, and to socialize with other children. You must have toys, books and supplies suitable for the ages of every child that you will be taking care of. Having your own children that are approximately the same age as the children that you are watching really helps also. This way you will already have all of the toys, books, and supplies and your own children will be able to socialize with other children in their peer group.
One common mistake among daycare providers is that they don’t look at the daycare as a business. It’s easy to overlook this as you develop relationships with the children and their parents. In order to have what it takes you have to be prepared to possibly make some difficult business decisions, such as the termination of child care services due to non payment from a deadbeat parent. There are other considerations and roadblocks such as state licensing requirements, supply expenses, and taxes.
In the end, only you can decide whether starting a home day care is right for you or not. With a dedicated, loving person armed with the right information daycare can be a very profitable, fun, and rewarding business.
Mp3 downloads- Advantages
In the beginning when Mp3 first evolved in the music market, the majority of people had no or little use of them. But as the time passed, these players lost the popularity due to limited storage of data and short battery lives. But despite this unpopularity many computer programmers analyzed the potential of these devices as the files were much smaller but didnt lose its sound quality.
When the broadband came into picture, internet rose to its time heights and made it easier to get free access of the wealth of MP3 music that is on tap and online. Many bands also distribute their music to be distributed over the internet because of its potential to reach mass audience. Some of the music websites also find it great to launch their won websites to post demonstrations, articles and materials they find their visitors shall find interesting.
Any new band will also go any lengths to get their music heard and the internet provides you with many such ways. They also post information about themselves and their music online where visitors can either download or stream music.
Such websites are customizable and provide generous quantity of space and also allow personal connections to develop between bands and fans that follow them. Some bands also preview their new album exclusively allowing their fans to hear the material before it hits the store. This arrangement is very beneficial for the listener and the musician but sometimes bands find it a reason to loose sales and profits.
There is a notion that music sharing online shall exert a negative impact on the sales of CD which is not very true because recently a band has made all their material available on the website and instead of losing CD sales they earned huge profits.

Buying A Used Car? Know The Basics
If you feel purchasing a new car is tricky, then buying a second hand car can be quite trickier. But don’t fret just yet–with these guidelines to keep you on track, that used car could be one of the sweetest deals you’ve ever had.
Where to Look
Snoop around. It pays to be on the lookout for owners wanting to shift to a newer model, and thus wanting to sell the car of your dreams. This is where your friends and family come in. Aside from referrals, they could more or less ensure that the price is reasonable and the car’s ownership history is satisfactory.
Asking the Right Questions
Why are the owners letting the car go? Make sure that they are not selling due to any major problems.
How long have they owned the car? Given proper maintenance, a five to seven year-old car would generally be in good condition. What repairs have been done, or are currently needed? How’s the mileage? The lower the mileage, the better. However, a used car with more miles could be satisfactory, too. In this case, ask about the vehicle’s use. Was it a family car limited to city driving? Does the car come with a warranty?
Take Note of the following:
Body rust or holes are difficult to repair. A body panel rusting through is to be replaced. Different paint shades from one panel to another, peeling and cracked paint, or smudges on other car part indicates a poor re-paint job, which needs to be re-done. Threadbare tires, chipped or cracked glass, the electrical work and what’s beneath the hood should be given proper attention, too.
Going Out for a Test Drive
If it’s a manual car, the clutch shouldn’t slip. If the clutch slips, instead of being steady as it accelerates, the motor will be revved up as when using neutral. If this happens get yourself a new clutch! Is the exhaust not chugging out excess smoke and noise?? The car may need some good motor repair, or some of the exhaust system parts replaced. Do the pothole test. Overly shaky rides could indicate a suspension problem, an alignment problem and or a tire problem. Always have a trusted mechanic or a car aficionado friend to thoroughly go over the car with you.
The Turn Over, at Last
The number of previous owners, registration details, applicable taxes, and insurance papers – should all be properly documented. With the paperwork done and the payment terms agreed upon, you’re ready to hit the road, and enjoy the ride!
North Face Tents
What is North Face?
The North Face is an outdoor product manufacturing company, specializing in products like jackets, tents, fleece wear, luggage, and shoes started by Douglas Tompkins in 1966. Their clothing and equipment lines are specifically aimed towards climbers, mountaineers, skiers, snowboarders, and hikers.
Mr. Tompkins sold the business in 1968, and The North Face is now a wholly owned subsidiary of the VF Corporation, one of the World’s largest apparel companies, owning leading brand names such as Wrangler, Lee Jeans, Riders, Rustler, Brittania etc.
North manufactures three main types of tents: Expedition, 3-season and Ultralight tents.
North Face Expedition Tents:

The Trailhead series come with 70 denier, 190T nylon taffeta canopy, 210 denier Oxford nylon floor, and include integrated roll down dividers for separated sleeping compartments. The series number indicates the number of people that can be accommodated.
The Petrel 23 is a freestanding, front-entry, two person tent – a backpacking staple for three-season use. The Roadrunner 22 is a two person tent with Waterproof Flysheet Construction. The Rock 22 is constructed with Continuous Pole Sleeve Technology which increases tent stability by maximizing contact between canopy and tent pole, and distributes pressure and weight from high winds and snow; and both the Bug 33 and Talus 23 with Fusion Pitch technology which combines continuous pole sleeves with clip construction for easy setup and improved ventilation.
North Face Ultralight Tents:
North Face Ultralight Tents include the Tadpole 23, Particle 13 and Vector 22, with price ranging from $200 to $230. All the three models are constructed with Waterproof Flysheet technology, with 40 denier 240T nylon ripstop canopy and 70 denier 210T nylon taffeta floor.
The Tadpole 23 is a two-person tent with Fusion Pitch, while the Particle is a lightweight one-person tent with a silicone flysheet for ease of packing and water repellency. The Vector 22 is a freestanding, two-person backpacking tent also with a silicone flysheet and dual doors.
All the Ultralight tents are equipped with the common North Face tent features such as compression stuffsack, fly only pitching, internal pockets, DAC Featherlite aluminum poles, reflective guyline loops and zipper cording etc.
Snoring problem cure.
Does anyone in your family have a snoring problem?
I have finally found a cure. About two years ago I started to snore. It got to the point that my soul mate, wife and lover of over 36 years had to leave the room and sleep on the couch. I also had sleep apnea. I would stop breathing and my wife stayed awake to make sure I would start breathing again. In summary she wasnt getting much sleep at night, and I wasnt getting much quality sleep either. Either Gila (my wife) was shaking me to get me to breath or I was waking myself up with the noise.
Finally about a year ago I went to the local sleep clinic. Their conclusion was I was a borderline candidate for the positive air pressure masks one wears at night to cure the condition. My wife said NO to that idea, as the noise from the machine would be as bad as my snoring. About a year after my visit to the sleep clinic I saw an ad on the internet by accident. It talked about a devise called a Snore Guard. I called the doctor at the sleep clinic and asked why he never mentioned this possible solution last year. He said he didnt bring it up because most dental insurance plans dont pay for it. It was apparent form his answer that he was purely profit motivated. He would only profit it I purchased the noisy air pressure devise and was not about to talk about something that he wouldnt profit from.
To make a long story short, I went to my dentist and got the snore guard. It worked! And to top it off, my dental insurance covered all but about $125. I dont snore and I dont stop breathing in my sleep. I feel rested in the morning and best of all, my wife is able to sleep all night for the first time in two years. The dentist said they have about a 80% success rate with this appliance. I was real surprised that I didnt know about this device sine I was a dental technician in the Army and my wife was a dental technician in the past and her sister is currently a dental technician. I wish I had known about this sooner. The brand name of the appliance that I use is Silent Nite. Ask your dentist about it or just the generic term “snore guard” to see what he or she might recommend. Just so you know, I have no affiliation with the maker of the product. There are other similar products on the market and if any of you have experience with those let me know and I will pass on the information. Just one more side note, it was not hard to get used to wearing the appliance at night. It is very comfortable, and easy to put on and take off.

Pressure Washer Concrete Cleaning Equipment
Pressure Washer Concrete Cleaning Equipment
Pressure Washer Concrete Cleaning Equipment
By Lance Winslow
Cleaning concrete is tough and there is an easy way and a hard way. There is one thing you need to understand when you are pressure washer cleaning concrete; the concrete cannot always be made to look brand new again after it has been stained. You can always get stains lighter or bleached but completely removing it is very difficult, sometimes you get lucky, but if you are looking for perfection, chances are you will be underwhelmed. So when talking to customers let them know up front and explain this to them otherwise they will be asking for a job that just can’t be done unless the entire concrete slab is ripped up and re-poured.
Lets talk about equipment that is needed for this type of work. Remember safety is always important when working with a pressure washer. Some times there are chemicals involved in cleaning some stains. Thus, you should always use some type of eye protection. Also, when you are using chemicals you need to wear jeans to protect your legs. Chemicals made for concrete are very strong and should not be toyed with. Would a person rather work with dry feet or wet? It is recommended that you get rubber waders or some type of rubber boot. They will keep your feet from getting wet and keep them from getting burned by the 250 degree water.
Orange cones are also important to have for this job. These help make people visually aware that you are there if you are in a high traffic area or where there are a lot of contract workers at say a newly constructed house that needs the concrete cleaned. This makes everyone around you safe and you are helping prevent accidents. Of course you are going to need a Hydro-Twister for this job. You can technically do the job with a wand but it will take a lot more time and water, not to mention you can cause streaking if you are not using even strokes across the slab of concrete. Most of the new hot water pressure washers have an option of a hydro twister type unit but if you don’t have one and or you need a second unit we recommend that you go to buy one. When buying a hydro twister buy the larger of the two. There my be only a 5 inch difference in surface coverage but it is well worth it when you are trying to save time without cutting corners. Especially if you are cleaning concrete at a construction site or a large retail type box store, there is a lot of concrete and the faster you clean it the more money you will make. Think about it.

The Reality of Imagery for Empowerment
Copyright 2006 Marshall House
Popular is the belief that imagery and imagination are not real. From my point of view, imagination is real: it exists in another dimension of reality.than the physical. Imagery is not less real because it is less dense than a chair.
Imagery is a set of mental pictures or images. These mental images are often used to represent objects or actions or ideas. Working with imagery, you can augment or transcend the limitations of physical reality. You can enhance and expand your conscious awareness.
I have observed again and again the power of imagination and imagery to shift an uncomfortable, even painful, situation into one that is more desirable, even pleasurable. I often lead clients through a guided imagery process that empowers them to perceive meaning they did not have before the imagery and use the new wisdom for enhanced personal empowerment.
When people claim they have no imagination, I ask them to tell me how to get to a particular street or well-known landmark in their city. Or I ask them what their plans are for tomorrow. Or I ask them what they had for dinner last night. When you plan a presentation for the boss or staff, you use imagery. When you consider a variety of approaches to ease a relationship, you use imagery. When you imagine a winning game of tennis or golf, you use imagery.
For me, imagery and breathing are in the same category of importance: Life can not exist without either. Surely, not everyone uses imagery or imagination in the same way or to the same level of benefit, but it is the basis for creation.
Form follows thought. And form follows thought, regardless of whether the thought is positive or negative. The process of imagery is impartial. However, if the images are uncomfortable, disempowering, or negative, the experiences that follow will contain a similar essence of discomfort, disempowerment, or negativity. And, as well, if the images are comfortable, empowering, or positive, the experiences that follow will contain a similar essence of comfort, empowerment, or positive characteristics.
Note the difference between the concept chair in the carpenters mind and the physical chair in your office. The carpenter or architect or artist or manager who successfully holds an image in the minds eye is more likely to be able to manifest it in the physical form. The two dimensions work together; one is not better than the other. An image can exist without the physical component, but the physical component does not exist without the image.
Imagery is a power that is your birthright it comes with the human package. How you use it is your choice. All you have to do is use it with integrity and awareness, and you are empowered!
Search Results Clustering Demystified
Clustering may mean to have two or more computer systems working together or multiple servers linked together for the purpose of handling variable workloads as well as to provide continued operation in case one fails. It may also refer to data clustering which is a technique used for data analysis by dividing a data set into subsets whose elements share common traits. Search result clustering aims to change the way people search online by organizing search result into folders that group similar items together.
Why Clustering is Needed
The use of the vast information available online cannot be maximized unless an effective means of organizing it can be provided. Clustering engines put search results.together based on textual and linguistic similarity. This basic similarity is supported by heuristics which are coded by programmers using as basis the users preference on what they want to see on clustered documents. Clusters are presented using the style of folders and sub-folders.
When a search engine provides millions of results for a particular query, the searcher can either sift through the endless pages of results or depend on the search engines judgment as to the most relevant results. Neither can ensure that the targeted information can be accessed as it may remain buried under pages of results or it may not meet the search engines criteria. In the same way that all other things are clustered or organized, the world of web searching would be more useful once given the benefit of organized search results.
Clustering engines automatically cluster results into categories that have been intelligently selected from words and phrases contained in search results. Categories are intended to reach human-level accuracy and to offer hierarchical drill doom capability in a familiar folder-style interface. Mind-numbing lists need not be scrolled through or ignored as the main themes are viewed in the first 300 500 results right on the first page. A quick overview of the types of information available on a particular topic is made available so that the area of interest can be immediately put into focus.
With the great improvement of search engines capability to return a large number of relevant results, it became more difficult to navigate meaningfully through all the results. A typical searcher does not take the time to view results beyond the first page which makes it very probable to miss results that would have been relevant and useful to his/her search or query. Clusters make it possible for results found on the tenth page to be just a click away. Related items can also be viewed together without much effort. It even reveals unexpected relationships between words, ideas and concepts.
A good cluster is considered such if it possesses a readable description. It should be able to assist in narrowing down a search to find exact results. A clustering engine queries multiple search engines and combines the results to be clustered and displayed on one screen. Each result list comes with information regarding the total number of results clustered and retrieved. The clustering engines own heuristics shall determine the pages to be favored. Search engines sometimes return multiple copies of the same page with slightly different URLs but this is minimized in search result clustering. This is because clustering engines does not reproduce results with similar descriptions. Clusters are specific enough that repeated documents are very rare. Some are able to offer advanced search features which allows searchers to specify which sources should be searched, the number of results desired, allowable waiting time, the desired language to be used and the filtering out of offensive contents.
Search Engines that Clusters
Google Sets do not provide results but rather helps in finding similar terms to the ones entered. This allows the user to create more complex queries in one area and brainstorm on how to put a search together. Google Sets is Google Labs clustering agent.
Wisenut is a full-text search engine which provides for related topics aside from a number of results for any search item entered. This is called the WiseGuide. Some results would have subtopics which will show underneath the clustered results. A link can be found next to each of the clustered results whose keywords can be used to run another search. A different set of clustered results shall be produced in addition to the web page results. This search engine has been bought by LookSmart.
Teoma has been dubbed as the Google Killer due to its very interesting clustering technology. A single search run will produce four sets of results. Those found at the top left are sponsored results, those found at the bottom are website non-sponsored results, those at the top right are the suggestions for refining the result and those at the bottom right are link calculations from experts and enthusiasts. The link collections are suitable for general information needs while the suggestions are for more specific searches. A click on any would signal the search to run again where a different set of site results shall be provided. Teoma has been purchased by AskJeeves.
Infonetware.com is more of a demonstration of Infonetwares Real Term Technology than a search engine. The results page is framed where the area on the left provides topics related to the search term while the web page search results are found on the right frame. It works with full searching.
Oingo uses the open Directory Project as its search source. The search results page gives a drop-down list of potential meanings. The list of categories in order of relevance to the search can be found beneath it as well as the site results from the directory itself. It is more useful for general term searches or search terms that are in a broad category.
Vivisimo is a meta-search engine that clusters its results. It provides a very simple front page with search results that are organized in groups. The page design makes it easy to explore several categories without having to lose your place. Clusty is the consumer search destination powered and owned by Vivisimo. It queries results from Ask, MSN, Open Directory, LookSmart, Gigablast and WiseNut. These sites were chosen because of their accurate results and quick return speeds.
Query Server offers several types of search on the left side of the front page. Each search has more or less the same interface and all cluster results. Search results are presented in a frame at the right side of the site.
Surfwax offers both subscription based and free services. A focus link can be seen in the upper left corner after a search is entered. These focus words can be used in addition to the search term. They are divided into narrower or broader categories and contain generic words and not links to specific people or places.
Northern Light News search requires a search to have a certain number of results in order to be clustered into folders. However, folder listing does not provide information about the contents of a particular folder although there are subfolders provided for broad topics. Search results are listed by order of date.
Clustering search engines break up several hundred results into manageable packages. Suggestions are provided so that the use of information is maximized and the search itself a lot easier. A search query cannot always be specific enough to target the right information at once.

Tips to Avoid Identity Theft
What is rampant, spreading like wildfire and can kill life as you know it? No, not a deadly virus (but close). Answer: Identity theft. My stepson, Aaron, was a victim of identity theft recently. Someone stole his bank cards, deposited fake checks into his account, then withdrew cash. The deposited fraudulent checks and overdraft charges hurt his credit, and hes slowly recovering and rebuilding his score.
Tips to avoid identity theft:
1.Buy a shredder. Aggressively protect your social security, credit card or bank numbers.
2.Use a lock-in mailbox. This isnt 100% safe, but its much safer than one without a lock.
3. Protect your out-going mail. Get it into the box or the hands of a postal clerk. Heavily trafficked offices often have out-going mail in the entryway. While this may save time, its not safe.
4.Keep receipts and compare to your statements when they come once a month. Banks make mistakes all the time.
5.Keep financial documents under lock and key (at the bank or in a home safe).
6.Dont give out your social security cardever.
7.Know whats in your wallet. Do you know how many credit cards are in your wallet?
8.Dont discuss detailed financial information on a cordless or cell phone. That information can be intercepted.
9.Monitor your credit reports. You can sign up for a monitoring service or do it yourself periodically. Your credit is one of your assets, so protect it.

Minding Your Global Manners
To say that today’s business environment is becoming increasingly more global is to state the obvious. Meetings, phone calls and conferences are held all over the world and attendees can come from any point on the globe. On any given business day you can find yourself dealing face-to-face, over the phone, by e-mail and, on rare occasions, by postal letter with people whose customs and cultures differ your own. You may never have to leave home to interact on an international level.
While the old adage “When in Rome, do as the Romans do” still holds true, business clients and colleagues who are visiting this country should be treated with sensitivity and with an awareness of their unique culture. Not to do your homework and put your best international foot forward can cost you relationships and future business. One small misstep such as using first names inappropriately, not observing the rules of timing or sending the wrong color flower in the welcome bouquet can be costly.
There is no one set of rules that applies to all international visitors so do the research for each country that your clients represent. That may sound like a daunting task, but taken in small steps, it is manageable and the rewards are worth the effort. Keeping in mind that there are as many ways to do business as there are countries to do business with, here are a few tips for minding your global P’s and Q’s.
Building relationships: Few other people are as eager to get down to business as we Americans. So take time to get to know your international clients and build rapport before you rush to the bottom line. Business relationships are built on trust that is developed over time, especially with people from Asia and Latin America.
Dressing conservatively: Americans like to dress for fashion and comfort, but people from other parts of the world are generally more conservative. Your choice of business attire is a signal of your respect for the other person or organization. Leave your trendy clothes in the closet on the days that you meet with your foreign guests.
Observe the hierarchy: It is not always a simple matter to know who is the highest-ranking member when you are dealing with a group. To avoid embarrassment, err on the side of age and masculine gender, only if you are unable to discover the protocol with research. If you are interacting with the Japanese, it is important to understand that they make decisions by consensus, starting with the younger members of the group. By contrast, Latin people have a clear hierarchy that defers to age.
Understanding the handshake: With a few exceptions, business people around the world use the handshake for meeting and greeting. However, the American style handshake with a firm grip, two quick pumps, eye contact and a smile is not universal. Variations in handshakes are based on cultural differences, not on personality or values. The Japanese give a light handshake. Germans offer a firm shake with one pump, and the French grip is light with a quick pump. Middle Eastern people will continue shaking your hand throughout the greeting. Don’t be surprised if you are occasionally met with a kiss, a hug, or a bow somewhere along the way.
Using titles and correct forms of address: We are very informal in the United States and are quick to call people by their first name. Approach first names with caution when dealing with people from other cultures. Use titles and last names until you have been invited to use the person’s first name. In some cases, this may never occur. Use of first names is reserved for family and close friends in some cultures.
Titles are given more significance around the world than in the United States and are another important aspect of addressing business people. Earned academic degrees are acknowledged. For example, a German engineer is addressed as “Herr Ingenieur” and a professor as “Herr Professor”. Listen carefully when you are introduced to someone and pay attention to business cards when you receive them.
Exchanging business cards: The key to giving out business cards in any culture is to show respect for the other person. Present your card so that the other person does not have to turn it over to read your information. Use both hands to present your card to visitors from Japan, China, Singapore, or Hong Kong. When you receive someone else’s business card, always look at it and acknowledge it. When you put it away, place it carefully in your card case or with your business documents. Sticking it haphazardly in your pocket is demeaning to the giver. In most cases, wait until you have been introduced to give someone your card.
Valuing time. Not everyone in the world is as time conscious as Americans. Don’t take it personally if someone from a more relaxed culture keeps you waiting or spends more of that commodity than you normally would in meetings or over meals. Stick to the rules of punctuality, but be understanding when your contact from another country seems unconcerned.
Honoring space issues: Americans have a particular value for their own physical space and are uncomfortable when other people get in their realm. If the international visitor seems to want to be close, accept it. Backing away can send the wrong message. So can touching. You shouldn’t risk violating someone else’s space by touching them in any way other than with a handshake.
Whether the world comes to you or you go out to it, the greatest compliment you can pay your international clients is to learn about their country and their customs. Understand differences in behavior and honor them with your actions. Don’t take offense when visitors behave according to their norms. People from other cultures will appreciate your efforts to accommodate them and you will find yourself building your international clientele.

Arsenal Put Up a Good Fight
Barcelona fans have a right to be happy after all they crowned themselves with their second their second European Cup, this doesnt take a way the fact that we also have pay tribute to the Arsenal who after all proved to be a great team also. Arsenal did a great job and played a great game it was not surprising after all that they were so hard to beat.
Arsenal started really well and it seems that when a player is sent off it is even more difficult to break down a side this also changed the game in a dramatic manner. When they scored the goal it helped them even more because to any soccer team a goal means hope and it accelerates rhythm and spirit.
Frank Rijkaard, a three-times European Cup winner as a defender with AC Milan and Ajax Amsterdam, joined the small list as he became the fifth man to win the competition as player and coach. In this list he is joined by Real Madrid coach Miguel Munoz, Dutchman Johan Cruyff, and Italians Giovanni Trapattoni and Carlo Ancelotti. I am sure that if he enjoyed it as a player he will certainly be enjoying it now.
The fact is that after the equalizing goal came for Barcelona things got untangled, it was very important and it busted Arsenals mental state as a team with one less player. After that Barcelona got in control and it was great that they won such a special game.
Find All Sorts Of Records Online!
Have you ever wondered what kind of information is available to you about the people you have to deal with in your life? Babysitters, employees, employers, boyfriends, girl friends, potential business partners all may have a personal history that if you knew may change your relationship considerably and in your favor as far as time, money, and safety is concerned.
Most of the records that you would be concerned with are open to the public accessibility is another thing entirely. Now if the person lived in your town or a nearby local for their whole life all you would have to do is go to the local county courthouse and fill out some paperwork to request and obtain the information that is of interest to you. Generally there are helpful people there to assist you.
But what if that isn’t an option? What if the person in question is from another state, or country? What if you don’t know where they are from at all? What if you can’t get to the courthouse to pick up the records during business hours? And the questions go on and on…
Well I want to tell you about another option to locate and obtain records which is actually the most convenient, user friendly, large scale, and powerful option that there is. In fact it is the option that private investigators turn to 1st 9 times out of 10.
So what is it already? Well there are actually a number of databases that you can find on the internet that contain all of the records you could ever want on somebody. option that is a available to the average user. These are often found with a simple search on google for “internet investigation” or public records. They almost without exception include powerful search tools that allow you to identify a person without knowing all the details. Most of them have all of the records found on file for them for any court in the country.
Usually for such a service there is some sort of charge for such a valuable resource of public records. Generally is not prohibitive but my advice is to me cautious as you are choosing between these resources as some contain hidden costs and/or don’t have the quality or depth of information that they claim to have. Common sense though is really all you need to make the right choice, as soon as you do you can instantly getting the information that you need.
“Life With Woody” 10 inspirational quotes than can improve yourself
It might take a little coffee or probably a few rounds of beer or any other booze you could get your hands on when it comes to relaxing after a hard day’s work. Well, yeah I’m guilty about that one as well, unless I’m caught dead wearing a lampshade over my head after a few rounds of vodka half-naked! Okay, bad example and I apologize to everyone reading this after getting nightmares about me in that state of drunken stupor.
Just don’t ask how it happened, please.
But what’s really interesting is that how do people go through the usual part of life when faced with vein-popping stress? I mean, the new age thing like Zen or yoga is one of the good things and it actually works. Is there room for the intellectual side of people who can actually smell the roses-in-a-can while on the move? It kind of had me thinking that there really must be something in this ‘mind-over-matter’ thing.
Humor is indeed the best medicine there is whenever you are. I mean anyone can pay good money to listen to a comedian just to make you wet your pants after laughing so hard. Despite of what’s been happening, and to those who has gone though the ordeal, it’s better to just laugh while facing the troubles with a clear mind than anger with a clouded vision. One of my favorite celebrities of all time may have to be Woody Allen. Now this is one guy who gives you the in-your-face bluntness that he pulls out with gusto, even without even trying. You can talk just about anything with a man, and he’s bound to mock the subject and you’ll end up laughing rather than being upset about it.
Woody Allen has this to say:
1. “Money is better than poverty, if only for financial reasons.” It sounds good to me, I mean the practicality of all things does involve money but it doesn’t have to take an arm and a leg to get it.
2. “I believe there is something out there watching us. Unfortunately, it’s the government.” ‘Nuff said.
3. “There are worse things in life than death. Have you ever spent an evening with an insurance salesman?” This happens to be one of the classic ones. I mean the issue about life’s little problems isn’t all that bad, until ‘he’ shows up.
Sure, relationships can get complicated, or does have its complications that probably any author about relationships is bound to discover it soon. We follow what our heart desires, unless you’re talking about the heart as in the heart that pump blood throughout your body.
4. “Love is the answer, but while you’re waiting for the answer, sex raises some pretty interesting questions.” And if you want more, just keep on asking!
5. “A fast word about oral contraception. I asked a girl to go to bed with me, she said ‘no’.” It sounds, ‘practical’, I think.
And when it comes to everyday life, he really knows how to make the best out of every possible scenario, and it doesn’t involve a lawsuit if he strikes a nerve.
6. “Basically my wife was immature. I’d be at home in the bath and she’d come in and sink my boats.” I never had a boat in my bathtub before. Just staring at it while soaking in hot water makes me seasick already.
7. “I am not afraid of death, I just don’t want to be there when it happens.” If it rains, it pours.
8. “I am thankful for laughter, except when milk comes out of my nose.” It could get worse when you’re guzzling on beer or mouthwash, and it happened to me once!
9. “If you want to make God laugh, tell him about your plans.” At least he doesn’t smite us with lightning, and I’m thankful for that.
And despite of what may happen to all of us in the next ten, twenty, or even thirty years, I guess we all have to see things in a different kind of light and not just perspective. I can’t seem to imagine life without any piece of wisdom that could guide us. Whether we’re religious or not, it takes more courage to accept your fears and learn how to deal with them is all that matters when it comes to even just getting along.
And to sum things up, here is the last nugget of wisdom to go by however, whenever, and wherever we may be.
10. “The talent for being happy is appreciating and liking what you have, instead of what you don’t have.”
Ciao!
